The second semester began on an enthusiastic note for the Golden Dragons. Everyone was excited to see their friends back in school and got into the swing of things right away. We got to use the new Science room to make Playdough. Please remember to ask the Golden Dragons what the ingredients are to make playdough??

Hard to believe that half the year has already gone by and we have come to the end of the first semester. The Golden Dragons had a wonderful get together with the parents on Monday!

Lots of Math, lots of literacy, lots of Art, lots of research and lots of creativity and collaboration came together as The Golden Dragons put together an awesome Museum on Tuesday this week. This was a culmination of all the activities and reseasrch related to the topic of Natural objects. We had a buzzing classroom, full of excitement and loads of fun. Children in their early years need a concrete and meaningful purpose to write. What could be better than through ‘Play’ the ‘child’s work’!!

Fluffy

We have a new friend in class with us. This is our class Mascot, Fluffy. The Golden Dragons have been very excited to welcome him into our group. We are all looking forward to taking Fluffy home with us on one of these weekends!!

Birthdays….

The Golden Dragons had two members who had their birthdays this  past week. Both of them turned 6!! Happy Birthday!!

Promethean Board

We are using the Promethan Board daily to do our Calendar, 100 day chart, word building games and drawing etc. The Golden Dragons love playing on the Promethan board. As we enjoy this fun our fine motor control and spacial awareness is developing rapidly.

I Pads

Mr. Steve visited our class to introduce the I Pads to the Golden Dragons….(needless to say ofcourse that almost all of us already knew exactly what to do.)In Kindergarten we are exploring as much technology as possible. The Promethean board is used daily and the computers are also set up as ones of the centers on some days of the week. Here is Mr. Steve with the Golden Dragons!

The Field Trip to Museo Pambata was loads of fun. The Golden Dragons were super excited and had a great time. We went through the various rooms of the Museum which depicted the Human Body, a Market Place, Environment conservation, Career dreams and Old Manila. What was particularly nice was that the whole experience was very hands-on! Here are some photos that captured the great day we had.

 We have commenced our first unit of Inquiry relating to Natural Objects. In the first stage the Golden Dragons brain stormed as to what comprises of natural objects. We had many interesting ideas!!!! In order to further our knowledge, we went for a nature walk with some Moms, Ms Macon and Ms Pippa to observe and collect some of these. Later in class we got to sort them out and make labels. In the next stage we are trying to find out what we can do with these natural things and what might be the use of these??

Last week we explored the concept of measurement. The Golden Dragons got a real sense of the word ‘measurement’ as they went outdoors to measure distance between two individually chosen points. How many steps? was the big question. We also learnt to record our findings, work in groups and cooperate!!

The Golden Dragons had a fun time as we giggled and wiggled when Ms. Macon traced our bodies. Later we measured how tall we are by placing little craft sticks to guage our heights. Alot of mathematical vocabulary was introduced as we undertook this activity!
